Shalom, folks, and chag sameach!
Last night we had a time of rejoicing with songs and fellowship, food and drinks, prayer and encouragement. It was a holy way to enter Yom Teruah as we sang, “Sound the Great Shofar” as we look ahead to the final fulfillment of Ezekiel 37, when that great shofar blast sounds, Messiah returns, gathers his people from the ends of the earth, sets up the Messianic Kingdom, reigns as King, and teaches us his ways. (Ezekiel 37).
One of our members, Kadimay Harvey, suggested an additional way to celebrate Yom Teruah: a volunteer shift at Feed My Starving Children, tonight (Monday) at 6pm in Eagan.
This is a fitting way to keep Yom Teruah, because it is in accordance with the Biblical mandate to “send food portions to those in need” on Yom Teruah (Nehemiah 8).
When the people of Israel returned from captivity, Ezra read the Torah to the people and they understood they were in the 7th month, on the first day of the month…Yom Teruah. The priests then commanded the people to “rejoice in the Lord, for the joy of the Lord is your strength…go, eat rich foods, drink sweet drinks, and send food portions to those in need, for the day is consecrated to the Lord.”
In keeping with this holy Biblical mandate, we’re volunteering at Feed My Starving Children, tonight, Monday at 6pm. Join us for this service to the Lord. Young and old can participate (as young as 5 years old) – and we’ll have child care services for those under 5 years.
