Matthew 1 – 2

In New Genesis, we will see how Matthew’s Gospel begins with a heavy emphasis on the Davidic kingship of Yeshua. We will discuss what “messiah” meant to a first-century Jewish audience and why they so desperately wanted the Messiah to come at that time. We will look into why the Messiah was named “Yeshua” and the significance of this, why Matthew uses “virgin” in his quote of Isa 7:14 and how this is not a disingenuous translation, and why the real focus should actually be on the name Immanuel. In chapter 2, we will discover that Yeshua’s life begins to conform to the life of Israel and this understand helps us better understand why Matthew understood Yeshua to have fulfilled Hosea 11:1.
