Tehillim Tuesdays: Psalm 104 in Hebrew

This post first appeared on Kineti and is authored by Judah Gabriel Himango, one of Tabernacle of David’s teachers.

Psalm 104 in Hebrew, performed by the talented Tel Aviv-based group Yamma Ensemble:

I really dig this band. They’re a group of Israeli musicians that mix ancient Middle Eastern sounds, chants, and klezmer to produce something special.

This song is a beautiful take on the first 5 verses of Psalm 104, a psalm that speaks about the creation of the world.

Lyrics:

Barchi nafshi et Adonai
Praise the Lord, Oh My Soul

Adonai Elohai gadalta meod
O Lord my God, you are exceedingly great

Hod ve’hadar lavashta
You are clothed with honor and majesty

Oteh ohr kasalma
Who covers Himself with light like a garment

Oteh shaman kayria
Who stretches out the heavens like a curtain

Hamkare ba’mayim aliyotav
Who lays the beams of His chambers in the waters

Hasam avim rechuvo
Who makes the clouds His chariot

Hamehalech al kanfey ruach
Who walks on the wings of the wind

Oseh malachav ruchot
Who makes the winds His messengers

Mesharetav ash lohet
Flames of fire His minister

Yasad eretz al mechoneha
Who laid the foundations of the earth

Bal timot olam va’ed
That it should not be moved forever
