And a new king arose over Egypt who did not know Joseph

“Now a new king arose over Egypt, who did not know Joseph. And he said to his people, ‘Behold, the people of the sons of Israel . . . Come, let us deal shrewdly with them’ . . . So they appointed taskmasters over them to oppress them” (Exodus 1:8-14) . . .  “And the sons of Israel groaned because of the bondage, […]

A sword for the Lord and for Gideon

Israel is pursuing its war aims against jihadi terror gangs before a watching world. Through this process, God is instructing those who have eyes to see concerning His own nature and character as YHVH, Lord of the armies of Israel. King David proclaimed this truth: “But David said to the Philistine, ‘You come to me […]

I have set watchmen on your walls

Three thousand years ago, Solomon the son of David proclaimed, “Unless YHVH builds a house, they who build it labor in vain. Unless YHVH guards a city, the watchman stays awake in vain” (Psalm 127:1).  The Hebrew word for watchmen used in this context is shomrim (singular shomer), meaning ‘one who guards over something or someone.’   […]

Prophets in a time of war

The Hebrew prophets spoke God’s heart and perspective to those in power. But it was a dangerous livelihood; being a faithful messenger for the God of Jacob might cost one’s life. Such was the case when Michah-Yah (Micaiah) brought a divine warning to Ahaz king of Israel :   Then Zedekiah the son of Cena’anah approached […]

Hip-deep in the river

The prophet Ezekiel was taken up by the Spirit of YHVH and transported into the future, where he gazed upon the Messianic Temple (also known in theological terms as ‘the Fourth Temple’). The God of Jacob revealed to Ezekiel that one day this House will stand on what is today called the Temple Mount, though […]

The Law of Moses vs. the Law of Christ? (Galatians 6:2; 1 Corinthians 9:21)

The expression “law of Christ” appears only two times in the New Testament.

In Galatians 6:2, Paul urges his readers to fulfill “the law of Christ”

(τὸν νόμον τοῦ Χριστοῦ). Similarly, in 1 Corinthians 9:21, Paul states that

he is “under/in the law of Christ” (ἔννομος Χριστοῦ). Traditionally,

interpreters have frequently understood this expression to refer to a new

“law” or ethic that supersedes the law of Moses. However, as Todd Wilson

notes, there is a “growing scholarly consensus” that “law of Christ”

directly refers to the law of Moses in some sense. This article makes a

case for interpreting the phrase “law of Christ” in Galatians 6:2 and 1

Corinthians 9:21 as a reference to the law of Moses as it is taught and

exemplified by Christ.

Good cop, bad cop

When a suspect is brought into a police station, a team of interrogators often questions the person, seeing if he can be persuaded to confess to the crime. Sometimes two different interrogators will question the suspect, each one adapting a different approach: one will threaten the suspect (the ‘bad cop‘ approach), while the second interrogator will be […]
